A world of peace and serenity, a world defined by rivers, lakes, forests and mountains... a world sheltered from the clutter of modern "normal" life... You see, my life isn't "normal" at all...My present life, that is. I spend it fly fishing and playing the piano! Or is it the other way around? Sometimes I can't tell. Most times nevertheless, these two passions blend together in wonderful seamless symbiosis. As a little boy, back in France, I spent a great deal of my time around a beautiful lake. And I guess these enchanted early years sealed what was to become a lifelong kinship with water, fish and wildlife. It was then too, that I started playing the piano...loving every moment of it.
The river gives me great joy when it allows me to hold and admire, if only for a fleeting moment, a magnificent sea run rainbow... However, you might spot me merely sitting on a rock, or on a bleached log, motionless, meditating or swaying to a melody flowing through my head as the water flows by. As in Herman Hesse's novel "Siddhartha", the river has taught me many things and over time, it has proven to be not only a river of dreams but a river of change.
My music is about the flow of life, about happiness and sorrow, life and death, foolishness and serenity... It is about the pulse of nature... Loons crying hauntingly on misty lakes, geese honking as they fly low over the river or cranes circling the skies of spring. It is about hope. It is precisely my hope to be able to transport you to this enchanted world of mine, musically that is, and to give you an intimate glance into the mystery and delight that moves me.
With Love - Serge Mazerand
It is not, I believe, a coincidence that now, some fifty years later -- in my so called golden years -- I should come back to these two love affairs of my childhood. In fact, they were never far removed, waiting patiently and discreetly backstage while I pursued other goals which had captured my youthful fancy.... Realizing that life was too short to waste away, I decided -- at last -- to be who I am and to do what I love most. It was not a coincidence either that led me to the river of my dreams. Isolated from the stresses of the "modern" world, I now live by the rhythms of nature, watching seasons unfold in their lovely diversity, inspired by the river that flows by my window and has become an intimate companion. I witness it's every mood... As it trickles and gurgles, subdued, under winter's icy manacles, as it rushes into spring, as it flows serene and crystal clear through golden Indian summers.
